Psychology is derived from the Greek words 'psyche' (meaning soul) and 'logos' (meaning the study of a subject). Psychology is, therefore, the science of studying behavior, as well as the psychological and cognitive processes that underlie behavior.
Clinical Psychology is the use of understandings derived from developmental and abnormal psychology to diagnose and treat mental disorders and adjustment problems.
|
It is not only people with severe psycho-pathology who would consult with a psychologist. Psychology can be used to treat a vast number of disorders, however minor or severe. A psychologist can be consulted for anything from the trauma sustained by victims of violent crime, to assessment for educational placement, to marriage counseling, to schizophrenia.
